Description: | Micromagnetic simulation of magnetic nanowires (MNW) using OOMMF to predict heating ability Presenter: Yicong Chen, Ph.D Candidate, University of Minnesota Date and Time: January 11, 2023; 1:30 - 2:30 PM EST Abstract: Magnetic nanowires (MNWs) are potential candidates for heating in biomedical applications such as nanowarming of cryopreserved organs and hyperthermia treatment of cancer cells that require rapid heating rates. Therefore, it is essential to optimize their heating ability by controlling their properties. Using the OOMMF simulation tool in nanoHUB, we will learn how to specify properties of the MNWs, such as their geometry and material and how these properties will affect their magnetic reversal behavior. For instance, we will use the graph function in OOMMF to observe the changes of hysteresis loops on varying properties of MNWs and use the display function to explain these changes of hysteresis loops by tracking the types of different magnetic moment motion at the reversal. As a result of changing hysteresis behavior, the heating ability can be calculated for comparison to determine the best choice of MNWs for the heating process. Presenter Bio: Yicong Chen is a Ph.D Candidate at the University of Minnesota in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. His current research focuses on the Micromagnetic simulation of magnetic nanowires using OOMMF. We hope to see you there! |
